Squad 80
Squad 80 is SCFD #4’s secondary-out ALS (Advanced Life Support) medical response unit, built on a 2020 Ford F-250 platform. This unit responds to medical emergencies and is frequently utilized for vehicle accidents and other support incidents.
Squad 80 carries a full complement of advanced medical equipment, including a LifePak 15 cardiac monitor/defibrillator, suction unit, medication bag, folding spine board, and a variety of other essential medical bags. These tools allow crews to deliver high-level pre-hospital care across a range of emergency situations.
For rescue operations, Squad 80 is equipped with a combination vehicle extrication tool—a cutter/spreader combo unit—enabling firefighters to perform rapid vehicle access during motor vehicle collisions.
The truck features a bed cap that houses a full-sized skid board and provides enclosed storage for multiple miscellaneous tools, helping ensure equipment is secure, accessible, and mission-ready.
Squad 81
Squad 81 is SCFD #4’s primary medical response apparatus and a designated ALS (Advanced Life Support) unit. Built on a 2020 Ford F-250 platform, this truck responds to the majority of EMS calls in the district, providing rapid and capable medical intervention.
It carries a full complement of advanced medical equipment, including a LifePak 15 cardiac monitor/defibrillator, suction unit, medication bag, folding spine board, and a variety of other essential medical bags. This setup allows crews to deliver high-level pre-hospital care in critical situations.
To support efficient operations and incident management, Squad 81 is equipped with onboard Wi-Fi to power the department’s Mobile Data Terminals (MDTs), enabling real-time access to dispatch information, mapping, and reporting tools.
In addition to its EMS capabilities, Squad 81 features a 50-gallon slide-in low volume, high-pressure skid unit—ideal for grass fire mop-up and small-scale suppression. The truck also carries a selection of hand tools and smaller equipment, enhancing its versatility on scene.
Brush 80 & Brush 81
Brush 80 and Brush 81 are nearly identical 2008 Ford F-550 wildland firefighting units, purpose-built to tackle the rugged terrain and fast-moving fire conditions common in our district. Both trucks are outfitted with large lift kits and oversized tires to handle off-road environments with ease.
Each unit carries 300 gallons of water and is equipped with a brush transfer pump, providing reliable water flow for wildland fire suppression. Mounted on either side of the trucks are “man baskets,” which allow firefighters to ride safely and apply water while the vehicle is in motion—an essential tool for attacking fires on the move.
Brush 80 and 81 are stocked with a wide range of equipment, including:
- Wildland hand tools
- Leaf blowers
- Chainsaws
- Medical gear
- Helicopter landing zone kits
Together, these twin units form the backbone of SCFD #4’s wildland response capability, offering versatility, mobility, and critical on-scene support during grass and brush fires.
Brush 82
Brush 82 is the newest addition to SCFD #4’s wildland firefighting fleet. Originally purchased new by the Manhattan Fire Department in 2005 as a utility vehicle, this Ford F-250 XL 4×4 was acquired by SCFD #4 in late 2023 and underwent a nearly complete rebuild to prepare it for the demands of brush fire season.
What began as a third-out unit quickly proved itself on the fireground, becoming a first-out choice for many of our duty officers. Brush 82 has already performed exceptionally during several large-scale wildland fires, solidifying its place as a critical piece of our response capability.
This truck is equipped with a 250-gallon brush skid, off-road recovery kit, medical equipment, and two side-mounted man baskets—similar to those found on Brush 80 and 81—allowing firefighters to operate handlines while on the move. The truck also includes a variety of hand tools and equipment designed to meet the challenges of rural wildland firefighting.
Brush 82 stands as a testament to the hard work and dedication of our personnel, built with pride and purpose to serve and protect our community in some of the toughest terrain we face.
Rescue 81
Rescue 81 is a Rosenbauer-built rescue apparatus mounted on a 2024 Ford F-600 4×4 chassis and powered by a 6.7L diesel engine. Ordered in February of 2023 and delivered in June of 2024, this unit was designed with versatility and readiness in mind to serve a wide range of emergency response needs.
Rescue 81 is equipped with a broad array of EMS equipment, including spine boards and essential medical supplies for advanced life support operations. It also carries air bags for vehicle lifting, vehicle stabilization gear, hand tools, and battery-powered auto extrication tools to assist with complex rescue situations.
In addition to its rescue capabilities, Rescue 81 is outfitted with hazmat response equipment and personal flotation devices (PFDs), allowing crews to respond effectively to hazardous materials incidents and water-related emergencies.
Purpose-built and highly adaptable, Rescue 81 plays a vital role in SCFD #4’s rescue and support operations—ready to respond wherever and whenever it’s needed most.
Engine 80 & Engine 81
Engine 80 and Engine 81 are the backbone of SCFD #4’s structural firefighting response. These twin apparatus are designed and equipped to handle a wide range of emergency situations, from residential structure fires to vehicle accidents and mutual aid calls.
Each engine features a 1,000-gallon water tank and a pump rated at 1,250 gallons per minute (GPM), providing ample capacity and flow for initial fire attack and sustained operations. They are also equipped with pre-connected attack lines, a deck gun, ladders, ventilation tools, and a full set of hand tools to support fireground tasks.
For firefighter safety and versatility, both units carry self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), forcible entry tools, and a variety of nozzles and hose appliances. Additionally, they are outfitted with basic medical bags and supplies to provide emergency care when needed.
Reliable, versatile, and mission-ready—Engine 80 and Engine 81 play a critical role in protecting our district and supporting neighboring departments.
Tender 80 and Tender 81
Tender 80 and Tender 81 are essential components of SCFD #4’s water supply operations, specifically designed to provide water to areas without hydrant access. These apparatus are equipped with 2,000-gallon water tanks and transfer pumps, ensuring a reliable supply of water for fireground operations.
The main mission of these tenders is to shuttle water to remote locations during large-scale incidents, where traditional water sources are unavailable. Both tenders are outfitted with water chutes that allow crews to efficiently dump water into portable dump tanks. These dump tanks are also carried on the apparatus, enabling engines to pump water out of the tanks while the tenders return to refill, maintaining an uninterrupted supply for fire suppression.
Tender 80 and Tender 81 play a vital role in ensuring SCFD #4 can effectively respond to wildland fires, structure fires in rural areas, and other emergencies where a continuous water supply is crucial.
