Welcome to the online home of Shawnee County Fire District 4 (SCFD4). Our agency provides Emergency Medical Services, Fire Suppression and Rescue coverage to 112 square miles of the beautiful Northeast Kansas Flint Hills and a 10 mile stretch of Interstate 70.

DISTRICT OVERVIEW

We are proudly a professional uncompensated agency with volunteers who work full-time in various other capacities with a desire to serve in the fire service. Our roster maintains between 20 and 30 active volunteers who range in certification from basic in-house training to career firefighters, EMTs, paramedics, engineers, public safety professionals, trades-men and women, military, etc. In addition to our members active in emergency response we maintain an Explorer post for young men and women pre-18 who are interested in the fire service. Supporting our emergency response is our reserve roster and SCFD4 Auxiliary, who assist in maintaining stations and providing logistics during extended incidents. Our volunteers respond to approximately 200-250 emergency incidents annually.

Stations

Our agency maintains two stations, the original Station 80 in Dover, KS and newest addition being Station 81.

Apparatus

Housed in total between both stations SCFD4 maintains nine pieces of fire apparatus and one incident support trailer. SCFD4 responds to four primary forms of emergencies; medical emergencies, vehicle crashes/rescues, wild-land fires and structure fires. Each station houses four different apparatus to handle various incidents; an Engine, Tanker, Brush Truck and Light Rescue. Due to our stations being un-staffed members respond to emergencies using Personally Owned Vehicles (POVs). Members who attain proper training, certification and years of service may apply to register their POV as a duly authorized Emergency Vehicle with emergency equipment (lights and sirens). POV response allows our members to respond from their home, place of business or wherever they may be to an emergency.

Our agency maintains two stations, nine pieces of fire apparatus and one incident support trailer. (Read more about our stations and apparatus here >> Stations) Station 80 is located in the heart of the district, Dover, KS and is the original SCFD4 station. Located in the Northern half is Station 81, tucked away on SW Valencia road at Exit 350 on Interstate-70 Station 81 is first due to any incident along our eight miles of Interstate-70 coverage. Being that our stations are not staffed our membership also maintain their own POVs (personally owned vehicles) which may be equipped with emergency equipment and registered with the county as an authorized emergency vehicle upon proper certification, training and approval. POVs are a necessity to providing timely emergency service when responding from our homes or place of business.
